Gelatex is a non-vowen textile that is produced using gelatin that is made of low value waste of meat industries.
So besides skin it is possible to make leatherlike textile from bones also, enabling to get up to 3 times more material from the same animal.
Gelatex production uses only natural, non-toxic substances and makes therefore no harm to the environment, to people or animals living in the surrounding areas,
to workers producing Gelatex, nor the final consumer of the products made of Gelatex.
No toxic chemicals
Organic raw material
Made of waste
Few water and energy needed to produce
Easy to handle
Faster design and cutting of final product
15-20% less material waste compared to leather
Feels like leather
Breathable and durable
Customizable properties (texture, thickness, water resistance)
We produce material that is better than leather.
The team behind Gelatex started to work on the idea in spring 2016 with the aim of making the textile industry more sustainable. The idea of using gelatin for the production of leatherlike textile grew out of the university research.
The company Gelatex Technologies OÜ was founded in November 2016.
Märt-Erik has researched gelatin-based materials almost 3 years during his bachelor´s studies of materials science. He has also background in engineering, physics and chemistry. He takes care of research and development in Gelatex.
Between the period of 27th Feb to 31st July 2017 European Regional Development Fund helped Gelatex Technologies OÜ to develop the initial solution for collecting nanofibers that is compatible with the existing technology, and characterize the material generated with the method with a grant of € 4,000.
We will let you know when Gelatex is ready to order.
